Extracting Urban Water Bodies from Landsat Imagery Based on mNDWI and HSV Transformation

چکیده

Urban water bodies are critical for sustainable urban ecological and social development. However, the complex compositions of land cover small pose considerable challenges to surface delineation. Here, we propose a novel extraction algorithm (UWEA) that is efficient in distinguishing other low-reflective objects by combining modified normalized difference index (mNDWI) HSV transformation. The spectral properties covers were analyzed separability different color spaces was compared before applying accuracy robustness UWEA validated six highly urbanized subregions Beijing, Tokyo, New York, with mNDWI HIS methods. results show had fewest total errors (sum omission commission errors) all validation sites, which approximately 3% fewer than those 17% method. performed best because it good at identifying suppressing reflective surfaces. effective monitoring its thresholds also robust various situations. resulting accurate map could support water-related analyses. This method useful scientists, managers, planners resource management, hydrological applications,

Deep Learning for Extracting Water Body from Landsat Imagery

There are regional limitations in traditional methods of water body extraction. For different terrain, all the methods rely heavily on carefully hand-engineered feature selection and large amounts of prior knowledge. Due to the difficulty and high cost in acquiring, the labeled data of remote sensing is relatively small. Thus, there exist some challenges in the classification of huge amount of ...

Water Quality Retrieval from Landsat TM Imagery

In this paper, the utility of Landsat TM imagery for water quality studies in East Texas is investigated. Remote sensing has an important and effective role in water quality management. Remote sensing satellites measure the amount of solar radiation reflected by surface water and the reflectance of water depend upon the concentration and character of water quality parameters. Three water qualit...

Quantifying Sub-Pixel Surface Water Coverage in Urban Environments Using Low-Albedo Fraction from Landsat Imagery

The problem of mixed pixels negatively affects the delineation of accurate surface water in Landsat Imagery. Linear spectral unmixing has been demonstrated to be a powerful technique for extracting surface materials at a sub-pixel scale. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an innovative low albedo fraction (LAF) method based on the idea of unconstrained linear spectral unmixing. The LAF stands...

Automated Subpixel Surface Water Mapping from Heterogeneous Urban Environments Using Landsat 8 OLI Imagery

Water bodies are a fundamental element of urban ecosystems, and water mapping is critical for urban and landscape planning and management. Remote sensing has increasingly been used for water mapping in rural areas; however, when applied to urban areas, this spatiallyexplicit approach is a challenging task due to the fact that the water bodies are often of a small size and spectral confusion is ...

Detecting Water Bodies on RADARSAT Imagery

This paper presents a novel geodesic active contour (GAC) model based on an edge detector for rapid detection of water bodies from spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery with high speckle noise. The original edge indicator function based on gradients is replaced by an edge indicator function based on the ratio of exponentially weighted averages (ROEWA) operator. Thus, the capability ...
